What is the function of APH in boiler?

Air Preheaters (APH) is the Shell and tube type Heat Exchangers used for preheating the air which is fed to the boiler or furnaces/kilns for combustion of fuels. Air Pre heater’s primary objective is to extract the waste heat from the flue gases leaving the boiler.

What is air pre heater in boiler?

An air preheater is any device designed to heat air before another process (for example, combustion in a boiler With the primary objective of increasing the thermal efficiency of the process. They may be used alone or to replace a recuperative heat system or to replace a steam coil.

How do I find a leak in my APH?

For this 700-MW power plant firing bituminous coal, leakages are calculated by using information on static pressure differences between the PA, SA, and flue gas streams, assuming two-thirds of the leakage occurs at the hot end of the APH. The air to flue gas leakage is 12\% (by weight).

Why preheated air is supplied to the boiler?

The purpose of the air preheater is to recover the heat from the boiler flue gas which increases the thermal efficiency of the boiler by reducing the useful heat lost in the flue gas.

How many level indicators are there in the water level indicator of a boiler?

Two water level indicators
How many level indicators are there in the water level indicator of a boiler? Explanation: The function of the water level indicator is to indicate the level of water inside the boiler drum at any given instant. Two water level indicators (one as a standby) are fitted at the front of the boiler drum.

What is boiler flue gas?

Flue gas refers to a chemical byproduct substance that is generated as a result of a combustion reaction that has escaped through long pipes such as those in boilers, furnaces or steam generators. Flue gas may also be referred to as exhaust gas and may act as a reactor agent for atmospheric corrosion.

What that is fed back to the boiler by the pump is called?

Water that is fed back to the boiler is called boilerfeedwater.

How do I check the water level in my boiler?

All steam boilers must have two means to determine water level. The gauge glass is the first and easiest means. A second device is the try cocks, a valve located on the water column used to determine the water level if the gauge glass is not functional.

Is Cochran a water tube boiler?

Cochran boiler is a multi-tubular vertical fire tube boiler having numbers of horizontal fire tubes. It is the modification of a simple vertical boiler where the heating surface has been increased by means of numbers of fire tubes.

Should a boiler flue be level?

Flue regulations are not only in place to keep your home safe but the people passing by your property too. If your boiler flue has to face out onto a public space, the installer will have to ensure that it’s fitted at least 2.1 metres above ground level, over head height.

How high should a boiler flue be?

A flue must be at least 2.1m off the ground if it faces a public space. If your property wall backs onto a public space like a pavement, it’s crucial that the flue’s gases don’t endanger people who are walking by. Boiler flues must therefore be placed at least 2.1m off the ground.

What is the full form of APH?

The Full Form of the APH is Air Preheater. APH is a tube and shell type heat exchanger. It is preheating the air which is fed to the boilers or furnace.

What is the difference between ApH and combustion air?

Combustion air delivered by FD and PA Fans is at ambient temperature. APH is the heat exchanger In which Heat energy from hot Flue Gas is transferred to Combustion air thus increasing its temperature and enhancing the combustion process effectiveness and efficiency.

What is the temperature at the APH on a gas fireplace?

Source: Energy Research Center, Lehigh University (ERC) The flue gas temperature leaving the economizer (and entering the APH) is typically reduced from 600F to 800F to 275F to 350F at the APH outlet. Combustion air is heated from about 80F to 500F to 750F, depending on the coal heat and moisture content.
