What is the function of condenser in thermal power plant?
In thermal power plants, the purpose of a surface condenser is to condense the exhaust steam from a steam turbine to obtain maximum efficiency, and also to convert the turbine exhaust steam into pure water (referred to as steam condensate) so that it may be reused in the steam generator or boiler as boiler feed water.
Which type of generator is used in thermal power plant?
Steam turbine-driven generators are commonly used in solar thermal electric power plants, coal, geothermal, nuclear, waste incineration plants, and natural gas power plants.
Why do we use condenser?
The function of the condenser in a refrigeration system is to transfer heat from the refrigerant to another medium, such as air and/or water. By rejecting heat, the gaseous refrigerant condenses to liquid inside the condenser.
How does condenser improve performance of steam power plant?
Condensers increase the enthalpy drops and turbine work by lowering the turbine outlet pressure. The lower the pressure, the higher the efficiency and power are. First one is to increase the turbine inlet temperature and pressure, the other one is lowering the turbine exit pressure, in other words to use a condenser.
How do thermal power plants run their generators?
Most thermal power plants use fuel to heat up water from a reservoir, which generates steam(usually at a high pressure). The highly pressurized steam then travels through pipes to rotate the fan-like blades of a turbine (see Rankine cycle for more info).
What is generator power plant?
In electricity generation, a generator is a device that converts motive power (mechanical energy) into electrical power for use in an external circuit. Sources of mechanical energy include steam turbines, gas turbines, water turbines, internal combustion engines, wind turbines and even hand cranks.
What is tdbfp in a boiler?
TDBFP (turbine driven boiler feed pump)For feeding water in boiler drum. Before the unit sync instead of TDBFP; MDBFP (motor driven boiler feed pump) used which is highly power consumed about 11 MW for 600 MW unit.so to save auxilary power consumption TDBFP use.
What is a tdbfp pump?
TDBFP stands for TURBINE DRIVEN BOILER FEED PUMP. These kind of pumps are generally designed for large capacities. Boiler feed pump is coupled with a smaller turbine and these turbines are steam driven. Steam is derived from different sources (such as extraction or aux. steam).
What is the advantage of tdbfp over a motor driven BFP?
The main advantage of having TDBFP in service is having the Motor Driven BFP in standby mode which can be used during emergencies. its serves same as motor driven boiler feed pump the only difference is, in TDBFP as name suggest it is driven by the extraction steam from turbine
What is the difference between MD BFP and TD BFP?
TD BFP is used to pump water to Boiler drum in a Thermal Power station. TD BFP uses steam bled from the main turbine for running the BFP and this process improves overall efficiency of the power plant (in comparison to use of MD BFP).
