What is the HRC for EN9?

EN9

Condition N S
Tensile Strength,Mpa 600-700 770-930
Yield Strength,Mpa ≥310 ≥480
Elongation 13\% 14\%
Hardness, HBW 201-255 223-277

Can EN9 be hardened?

EN9 is a medium carbon steel grade commonly supplied in the as rolled condition. It can be flame or induction hardened to produce a high surface hardness with excellent wear resistance for a carbon steel grade.

How do you harden EN9 steel?

Cool slowly in the furnace. Hardening of this grade is carried out from an austenitizing temperature of 820-850ºC followed by oil or water quenching. Carbon steel EN9 or 070M55 can be tempered at a heat of between 550°C to 660°C,heating for about 1 hour for every inch of thickness, then cool in oil or water.

Can you weld EN9?

MIG/MAG (GMAW) welding or flux cored arc welding can also be used with consumables giving weld metal of appropriate strength. Heat to 620 – 650°C at a maximum heating rate of 100°C/hr or 6000/thickness (mm)°C/hr, whichever is the smaller. Boost the preheat to 250°C and hold for 4 hours minimum.

What type of steel is EN9?

medium carbon steel
EN9, also known as 070m55, available in diameters, flats, squares and plates with a carbon content 0.50/0.60 this is a medium carbon steel which can develop a tensile strength of 700N/mm 45tsi. In the normalised condition EN9 can be used for gears, sprockets and cams.

Can you harden EN8 steel?

EN8 can be flame or induction hardened to produce a good surface hardness with moderate wear resistance.

What is the difference between EN8 and EN9?

EN8 :- 0.4\% medium carbon steel. A general purpose steel for applications requiring added strength and superior tensile properties to mild steel specifications. EN9 :- 0.5\% carbon steel giving higher tensile than EN8.

How do you harden EN8?

Hardening Heat the component slowly to 820-860°C and allow it to be heated through. Quench in oil or water. hand warm. Re-heat the EN8 component to the tempering temperature then soak for one hour per 25 millimetre of total thickness (2 hours minimum) Cool in air.

Can I get hardness of 44-48 HRC with EN9 material?

Q. With en9 material can I get hardness of 44-48 hrc on all over the part. If yes, then can you suggest the h/t cycle. Because we are manufacturing one product which has an elliptical broach in middle in which we can’t get hardness 44-48 hrc and also we found that our broach dimensions has also get variation after final heat treatment.

Is EN8 a good material for hardening pins?

Hello there, we make pins from 3 mm to 16 mm dia. EN8, in my experience, is not a good material for hardening. We posted your question and we hope you will receive an answer! In 60 mm thick you need, at least, some boron and chromium in your composition to improve hardening depth.

Is it possible to achieve HRC 50-55 in mild steel?

Due to such less carbon, it is not possible to have martensitic transformation in it after heat treatment. Hence HRC 50–55 can never be achieved in Mild Steel. However if you do surface hardening treatment like Case Carburizing, Nitriding etc, then you may achieve such hardness, but never on plain untreated Mild Steel.

What is enenen8 steel?

EN8 is a very popular grade of unalloyed medium carbon steel, which is readily Hardness. Brinell. Chemical composition. Carbon. \%. In last lot used with same heat material hardness achieved 46 to 48 HRC, this month lot achieving hardness 37 to 38 HRC only. Required case depth is 0.
