What is the meaning of TFA in HVAC?

Treated Fresh Air Units (TFA) are also known as Fresh Air Handling Units (FAHU). Unlike Air Handling Units that are used to recirculate the air in an enclosed space, TFAs cater to large, fresh airflow and recovery needs by treating outdoor air using filters and condition it some degree using a cooling system.

Is AHU the same as HVAC?

AHU, which is Air Handling Unit is an appliance used to circulate air. HVAC is Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning system. HVAC is the central unit to which AHU is connected. AHU is only a part of HVAC and as such there is hardly any difference between then two.

Is AHU and FCU the same?

AHU and FCU are both included in the HVAC system. AHUs are usually connected to a central HVAC system whereas an FCU can function or be installed itself. Because of this, it is often the AHU that is used to ventilate an entire building whereas FCUs are used in smaller and often local spaces only.

How is treated fresh air calculated?

Simply select the type of building you are considering adding fresh air to, and estimate the typical number of people occupying the building. Multiply the number of people by the required cfm per person to determine the required fresh air flow.

Is TFA toxic?

TFA is harmful when inhaled, causes severe skin burns and is toxic for aquatic organisms even at low concentrations.

Why do we use FCU?

FCU’s are generally used for controlling the space where they are installed. AHU’s are part of a larger system. FCU’s don’t generally use ductwork to cool or heat air. The fan pulls the air over the coil.

How do FCU work?

A fan coil unit (FCU) contains a fan which draws the air in a space into the unit then blows it over a cooling or heating coil. The air comes out of the FCU either cooler or hotter than before. Each FCU is provided with a small supply of outside air to ensure adequate ventilation.

Why VFD is used in Ahu?

Abstract: Variable frequency drives (VFD) enable control of the speed of three phase motors which allows the motor to be operated with variable current inputs. This technology can be used in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems to lower fan operating speeds, reducing energy consumption.

What is the difference between a TFA and Ahu system?

The main difference between TFA and AHU is, TFA conditions 100\% outside air and feeds to the building inside whereas an AHU conditions 100\% existing air inside a building, or sometimes it takes a few outside airs and mixed with the inside air. 2. TFA always installed with an Exhaust System.

Is TFA always installed with an exhaust system?

TFA always installed with an Exhaust System. Because TFA takes outside air and fed to the room inside, so the air pressure inside the room will increase. So, to reduce or maintain the air pressure an exhaust system must be required. On the other hand, AHUs may not require any exhaust system which conditions 100\% inside air only.

What is TFA (technically treated fresh air)?

Treated Fresh Air (TFA) is a term for a category of airflow, like supply, exhaust, return air, etc. Fresh air is outside air blown into a space from ventilation purposes without return air mixed in.

What is the difference between AHU and recirculated air?

In AHU the air is recirculated and required room conditions and maintained by cooling and heating of the recirculated air with some quantity of fresh air. 8 clever moves when you have $1,000 in the bank.
