What is the noise level in FET?

Low noise FET amplifiers have large input capacitances that can be up to 20 pF, which puts the 3 dB point at 0.8 Hz.

What is BJT noise?

Noise in a transistor amplifier is defined in terms of excess noise generated by the amplifier, not that noise amplified from input to output, but that generated within the amplifier. This is determined by measuring the signal to noise ratio (S/N) at the amplifier input and output.

What causes the noise in a BJT?

Thermal noise is created by random motion of charge carriers due to the thermal excitation. This noise is sometimes known as the Johnson noise. The thermal motion of carriers creates a fluctuating voltage on the terminals of each resistive element.

How does FET differ from BJT?

BJTs and FETs are two different kinds of transistors and also known as active semiconductor devices. The major difference between BJT and FET is that in a field-effect transistor only majority charge carries flows, whereas in BJT both majority and minority charge carriers flow.

Why FET is called field effect transistor?

The concept of the field effect transistor is based around the concept that charge on a nearby object can attract charges within a semiconductor channel. It essentially operates using an electric field effect – hence the name.

Why does JFET have higher bandwidth than BJT?

Whereas in the case of an FET, it is decided by the gate to source resistance. Since the input for a BJT is a forward biased diode, the resistance is low. In the case of an FET, THE DRAIN SOURCE CAPACITAANCE IS QUITE SMALL hence the upper 3 dB frequency is quite large yielding a large bandwidth.

Why is a BJT more noisy than a FET at high frequency?

BJT is more noisy compared to FET at high frequency because BJT is a current current controlled device and sudden change in current direction is not an easy task. It takes some time to invert current direction. While in case of FET, as it is a voltage controlled device so, changing potential externally is much easier.

Why BJT transistors produce more gain than FET transistors?

So if you use the same amount of power at the input for both a BJT and FET transistor, the BJT transistor will produce more gain. This is why BJTs are more popular for amplifier circuits. They produce gain than a FET can. This is why in the case of simple amplifier circuits, the use of a BJT is preferred and FETs are rarely used.

What is the difference between BJT and MOSFET?

A BJT’s noise mostly comes from the forward biased base-emitter which separates base and emitter – the noise is lower than a MOSFET though but because the base current flows through this junction, the noise generated receives gain and appears as collector current.

Why is there no noise in Fet?
