What is the responsibility of the internetwork the network layer is?

Main responsibility of Network layer is to carry the data packets from the source to the destination without changing or using it. If the packets are too large for delivery, they are fragmented i.e., broken down into smaller packets.

Do we still need addresses in both the network layer and the data link layer?

A router needs to have a MAC address (link layer address) and IP address on each network interface (link). No.As we are not using routers in our topolgy there is no need for both network and data link layers.

Why addressing is required in a data network give one example?

IP addressing provides mechanism to differentiate between hosts and network. The host which needs to communicate outside its subnet, needs to know destination network address, where the packet/data is to be sent. Hosts in different subnet need a mechanism to locate each other. This task can be done by DNS.

Do routers use link layer?

Now, routers contain the network layer, data link control layer and physical layer.

Which one is not a responsibility of network layer?

Q. Which one of the following is not a function of network layer?
D. error control
Answer» d. error control
Explanation: in the osi model, network layer is the third layer and it provides data routing paths for network communications. error control is a function of the data link layer and the transport layer.

What layer is responsible for routing messages through an internetwork in the TCP IP model?

Answers Explanation & Hints: The TCP/IP model consists of four layers: application, transport, internet, and network access. Of these four layers, it is the internet layer that is responsible for routing messages.

Can you have two hosts in different networks to have the same link layer address?

But the network layer systems perform two different networks. Can two hosts in two different networks have the same link-layer address? Explain. Yes, they can, because link-layer address local.

Can two hosts in two different networks have the same link layer address?

Two hosts in two different networks can theoretically have the same link-layer address because a link-layer address has only local jurisdiction.

Why addressing is needed?

Emergency services personnel need to quickly locate, and easily read, your address to provide emergency and other services to you. Help us protect you, your property, and your family by making sure your address is correctly displayed and easily readable.

Why is a network address important?

Managing IP addresses is therefore important. When the lease is over, the device releases the IP address back to the DHCP server and the device is assigned a new IP address. IP addresses are therefore used to identify devices and are unique to a device within a subnet. An IP address can be masked through VPN.

How routers will be used in network layer?

A router is a layer 3 or network layer device. It connects different networks together and sends data packets from one network to another. A router can be used both in LANs (Local Area Networks) and WANs (Wide Area Networks). In order to transmit data packets, it consults the table and uses a routing protocol.

Why do we need the link layer?

The data link layer is responsible for multiplexing data streams, data frame detection, medium access, and error control. It ensures reliable point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections in a communication network. The MAC protocol in a wireless multihop self-organizing sensor network should achieve two goals.

How many network-layer addresses do I need for my Device?

Routers and different Internetworking devices need one network-layer address per physical network association for every network-layer protocol supported. Implementing a useful internetwork isn’t at any certainty.

How many data-link addresses can an endend system have?

End systems usually have just one physical network association, and therefore have just one data-link address. Routers and different internetworking devices usually have multiple physical network connections and so eventually have multiple data-link addresses.

What should be maintained in an internetwork?

Another essential thought is reliable service that should be maintained in an internetwork. Individual users and whole organizations depend upon consistent, reliable access to network resources. Network management should give centralized support associate degreed troubleshooting capabilities in an internetwork.

What are the different types of addresses used in the Internet?

Three kinds of internetwork addresses area unit ordinarily used: data-link layer addresses, Media Access control (MAC) addresses, and network-layer addresses. Data Link Layer addresses: A data-link layer address unambiguously identifies every physical network association of a network device.
