What makes an art not an art?
When we talk about intention, we must make a distinction between art and non-art. But in art, the intention is to give people material to create their own thoughts and emotions. No sharp boundary can be drawn: Fine art can have political implications; advertisements can have artistic aspects.
What is the example of not art?
Work that does not depict anything from the real world (figures, landscapes, animals, etc.) is called nonrepresentational. Nonrepresentational art may simply depict shapes, colors, lines, etc., but may also express things that are not visible– emotions or feelings for example.
Is art useful of not why or why not?
Art never loses its value because it is not useful, but pleasurable, intriguing, unsettling, delightful, disturbing, amusing and entertaining. Useful things can be explained and understood, finally, by an account of their purpose. Art, without a fixed purpose, can never be silenced by being understood.
What exactly is art?
The New Webster’s Dictionary defines art as “the use of the imagination to make things of aesthetic significance.” Wikipedia probes further and tells us art is the “process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the senses or emotions.”
Who decides whether an artwork is art or not?
Today, the maker or creator or imaginer or seller of an artwork gets to say whether or not it is art. There are no agreed-upon standards or gatekeepers to decide what is art and what is not art.
Do artists need a reason to produce art?
Artists sometimes claim they don’t need a reason to produce art, but I am uncertain how the creative process sustains itself without a motivating force. Some seem convinced they are an elemental force, painting because nature abhors a vacuum.
When does a subject become an art?
The short answer is: When it brings no new perspective. Change the perspective on how a subject has been seen, up until that point in time, and you have made art. Repeat an existing view of a subject without changing perspective and you have not made art. (This get’s interesting when an artists subject is the “lack of art in the world”.
