What percentage do you need to pass the CAE exam?

Valid scores on the CAE Exam range from 160 to 210. A score of 180 or above is considered a “pass” and students with that score will receive the Cambridge C1 Advanced certificate, which corresponds to a level C1 in English on the CEFR.

Can you fail CAE exam?

There are no pass or fail levels in the individual papers. Your marks for each paper are added together to calculate your result for the whole examination. We have made enhancements to the way we report the results of our exams because we believe it is important to recognise your achievement.

How is the Cambridge exam scored?

A candidate’s overall score is calculated by adding all of the individual scores together and dividing by four (and then rounding to the nearest whole number). A candidate’s grade and CEFR level are based on their performance across the whole test, and there is no requirement to achieve a minimum score in each paper.

What is the maximum score CAE?

210 to 142 points
CAE Scoring CAE scores range from 210 to 142 points and fully correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In order to receive a Grade A (the highest score), candidates must get at least a 200.

Is Cambridge 189 a good score?

You will not receive a certificate, but your Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on your Statement of Results….C1 Advanced Scale Scores.

What happens if you fail CAE?

Even if you fail to successfully complete C1 Advanced (CAE), you can still get a B2 level certificate that corresponds to the B2 First (FCE) exam. “Certificate of Professional English Language” is an exam for those who speak English at a very high level.

What is a good Cambridge score?

The exam is targeted at Level C1 of the CEFR. The examination also provides reliable assessment at the level above C1 (Level C2) and the level below (Level B2)….C1 Advanced Scale Scores.

How is CAE reading marked?

0–5 marks are given for each of the following criteria: Content; Communicative Achievement; Organisation; and Language. Whole marks only are awarded; there are no half marks given. Part 1 is worth 20 marks and Part 2 is worth 20 marks. There are 40 possible marks in the Writing paper.

What level of English do I have if I pass the CAE?

If you pass the CAE exam, you have a C1 level of English. C1 is an advanced level of English and I will explain this in a lot more detail under the ‘ How to complete the CAE exam FAST ‘ section of this page.

What is the pass mark for CAE exam?

Score A, B, C (pass), D, E or U (fail) CAE pass is accepted for entry to some universities. The Reading and Use of English section counts for 40\% of the marks. The Writing, Listening & Speaking sections each count for 20\% of the marks. You will receive a Statement of Results.

What is the passing score for C1 Advanced reading?

Remember, you do not need to pass every paper in order to get a C1 Advanced certificate, but you do need to have a total average score of 180 + from the 5 different exam sections combined. Any score lower than 17 (142) is not reported. So, we need a minimum of 32 out of 50 available marks to get 180 or C1 level and pass the Reading section.

What is C1 Advanced on the CAE exam?

‘C1 Advanced’ is a name that represents the level of the exam. If you pass the CAE exam, you have a C1 level of English. C1 is an advanced level of English and I will explain this in a lot more detail under the ‘ How to complete the CAE exam FAST ‘ section of this page.
