Which car is best for Ladakh trip?

If you are with a couple of friends out to have fun, an open Mahindra Thar will probably be the best for the trip. However, if you are with family then any other 4X4 SUV like Fortuner, Safari, Scorpio will be the best. If you do not own an SUV, then by all means you can travel to Ladakh in your Sedan or Hatchback.

Can I take my private car to Ladakh?

Yes, you can take your personal or private cars to Ladakh. The cars with white number plate registered under your name, your wife’s name or your father’s name are allowed to do sightseeing within Ladakh and to travel to places like Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri.

Can I take my car to Leh Ladakh?

You can use the outside rented self-drive cars to reach Leh over Srinagar Leh Highway or Manali Leh Highway. However, these self-drive rented cars outside Leh Ladakh are not allowed to do any sightseeing within Ladakh including places like Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri.

We didn’t drive ourselves and took the journey in a tempo traveller. But there are no restrictions on taking your private vehicle from Manali to Leh or anywhere in Ladakh. The only restriction is on Taxis because of local taxi union laws. An HP (or any other) Taxi cannot take you sight seeing in J & K (kashmir or ladakh).

Should you buy a supercar or lease one?
