Which hepatitis is Kala Piliya?

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes a disease of the liver known as hepatitis C. In the northern part of India, this is also referred to as ‘kala pilia’. If left untreated, it can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer.

What is Kala Piliya symptoms?

If the infection’s left untreated, the following symptoms may develop:

  • jaundice.
  • fever.
  • abdominal pain.
  • nausea.
  • diarrhea.
  • fatigue.
  • dark-colored urine or light-colored stool.

How long can you live with hepatitis?

People with hepatitis C can live many years after diagnosis, but the range varies. A 2014 study showed that patients infected with hepatitis C virus died on average 15 years sooner than people who did not have the illness. With hepatitis C, the liver becomes seriously damaged due to inflammation.

What is the correct treatment for hepatitis?

No specific treatment exists for hepatitis A. Your body will clear the hepatitis A virus on its own. In most cases of hepatitis A, the liver heals within six months with no lasting damage.

What is Kala Yarkan?

On the other hand, Hepatitis B or C usually cause chronic liver disease and can ultimately lead to liver failure or liver cancer and in layman language are known as “Kala Yarkan”. Prevention is always better than cure and both types can be prevented through easy precautions.

What is Kala Peliya?

Hepatitis C or Kaala Peeliya as it is called in the local dialect is a ‘non-visual’ condition. It doesn’t affect the body in its early stages and can remain dormant for up to 20 years post which it leads to fast decay of the liver.

Is black jaundice curable?

In adults, jaundice itself usually isn’t treated. But your doctor will treat the condition that’s causing it. If you have acute viral hepatitis, jaundice will go away on its own as the liver begins to heal.

Can you be cured of hepatitis?

All types of hepatitis are treatable but only A and C are curable. Most people with hepatitis A or hepatitis B infection will recover on their own, with no lasting liver damage. In rare cases, people with hepatitis B will develop chronic liver disease, including cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer.

Can hepatitis be treated with antibiotics?

There are no special medicines or antibiotics that can be used to treat a person that is acutely infected once the symptoms appear. Generally, bed rest is all that is needed. Interferon is the most effective treatment for chronic HBV infection and is successful in 25 to 50 percent of cases.

Can hepatitis be curable?

There is no cure for hepatitis A, but treatment can help manage symptoms. Avoiding alcohol can help with recovery, but most people recover without intervention.
