Which is better Gentoo or arch?

If you want really fine-grained control, Gentoo is worth it. If you don’t need that level of control and are generally fine with leaving that stuff to your distro developers, then Arch is also fine.

Is Arch easier than Gentoo?

Arch provides a ports-like system for building packages from source, though the Arch base system is designed to be installed as pre-built x86_64 binary. If comfortable with systemd, Gentoo users will also generally feel at ease with most other aspects of Arch.

What is different about Gentoo?

Gentoo Linux (pronounced /ˈdʒɛntuː/ JEN-too) is a Linux distribution built using the Portage package management system. Unlike a binary software distribution, the source code is compiled locally according to the user’s preferences and is often optimized for the specific type of computer.

Is Gentoo still relevant?

But Gentoo Linux slowly lost popularity over time and is now a pale shadow of its former self in terms of usage and mind-share among Linux users (though there are still some die-hard Gentoo users left on Reddit).

Can Gentoo use Aur?

Perhaps there is some sort of AUR helper for gentoo? No you can’t install AUR but you can translate PKGBUILD in ebuild. In gentoo there are overlays (like AUR where a user can manage itself personal ebuilds) that you can manage with app-portage/layman.

Why is Gentoo good?

Gentoo allows users to configure which software features they wish to install, instead of the “one size fits all” approach of many binary-based distributions. Gentoo can run in a wide range of environments, from embedded systems and virtual containers (LXC, OpenVZ, etc.) through to large cluster machines.

Gentoo is not a matter of speed, although it can be faster than some others because you can use optimizations when compiling and linking (and you can use SSE3 instruction set if you processor has it), but this doesn’t really improve speed very much.

gentoo is worth the effort if you want to learn how Linux works below the surface. I learned more from using gentoo for a couple of years than all the many years of using other distros. There are many things to configure and tinker with when using gentoo that make it a lot of fun to use and a good learning experience.
