Which is testing method of crude oil and petroleum product?

The ASTM D2892 test method is used for the distillation of stabilized crude to a final cut temperature of up to 400ºC (752ºF) Atmospheric Equivalent Temperature (AET). The crude oil is heated and separated by the distillation column into lighter products such as; gasoline, kerosene, naphtha, etc.

How do you test for crude oil?

Trade Crude Oil Assay Testing

  1. True boiling point distillation ‐ TBP (D2892)
  2. Vacuum potstill distillation (D5236)
  3. Atmospheric distillation – petroleum products (D86)
  4. Vacuum distillation – petroleum products (D1160)
  5. Simulated distillation (D2887, D7169)
  6. Specific gravity / API (D5002, D2598, D1298, D70)

How do you measure water content in crude oil?

The water in crude oil is determined by coulometric Karl Fischer titration using a generator electrode with diaphragm. The sample can be directly injected into the titration cell. To help water extraction, xylene is added to the anolyte solution. Xylenes help to dissolve crude oil in the anolyte.

What does BSW mean in oil and gas?

Also known as: basic sediment and water. BS&W refers to the volume of non-hydrocarbon contaminants contained in a cargo of crude oil. Usually, this is made up of dirt (sediment) and water.

What is a crude test?

A crude oil assay is the chemical evaluation of crude oil feedstocks by petroleum testing laboratories. Each crude oil type has unique molecular and chemical characteristics. The results of crude oil assay testing provide extensive detailed hydrocarbon analysis data for refiners, oil traders and producers.

What is the ASTM test method?

ASTM test methods are petroleum industry standards, accepted worldwide for quality and reliability. ASTM test methods for petroleum and refined products include: Petroleum and Petrochemical Test Directory. ASTM Tests for Petroleum, Fuels and Petrochemicals.

Is method for wax content in crude oil?

A new method has been developed for determining the wax content in crude oils. Saturate fractions, obtained during hydrocarbon group separations by open column chromatography, were analyzed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC/FID).

How do you calculate BS&W in crude oil?

The BS&W content of crude oil is determined using small centrifuges that are driven by hand or by electric motor. A small measured volume of sample is diluted with solvent and placed in graduated glass containers that then are inserted into the centrifuge and spun for a few minutes at speeds of 2,000 to 4,000 rev/min.

What is BSW analysis?

Basic sediment and water (BS&W) is a both a technical specification of certain impurities in crude oil and the method for measuring it. When extracted from an oil reservoir, the crude oil will contain some amount of water and suspended solids from the reservoir formation.

What is BSW in drilling?

Abbreviation for basic sediment and water.

What is crude oil characterization?
