Which type of reinforcement is provided in slab?

Reinforcement is provided in conventional slab and the bars which are set in horizontal are called Main Reinforcement Bars and bars which are set in vertical are called Distribution bars. Based on the length and breadth of Conventional Slab is classified into two types: One-Way Slab. Two-Way Slab.

How reinforcement is provided in two way slab?

In two way slab, as the loads are carried in both directions (longer and shorter direction) main reinforcement bars are provided in both directions. The loads are carried by two sides are equal. Slab with reinforcement in both directions is more economical than one way reinforcement slabs.

How reinforcement is provided?

Most concrete used for construction is a combination of concrete and reinforcement that is called reinforced concrete. Reinforcement for concrete is provided by embedding deformed steel bars or welded wire fabric within freshly made concrete at the time of casting.

How do you calculate one way and two way slab?

How do we calculate a one way or two-way slab? If the L/b ratio is greater than or equal to 2 or then it is considered a one-way slab. If the L/b ratio is less than 2 then it is considered a two-way slab.

How are one way and two way slabs different?

In one way slab, the load is carried in one direction perpendicular to the supporting beam. In two way slab, the load is carried in both directions. In two-way slab, the crank is provided in four directions. If L/b the ratio is greater than or equal 2 or then it is considered a one-way slab.

Why reinforcement is provided in top layer of slab?

Distribution bars placed on top of the main bar. Main Reinforcement Bars are used to transfer the bending moment developed at the bottom of the slab. Distribution Bars are used to hold the slabs on either way and to resist the cracks and shear stress developed at the top.

What is the difference between one way slab and two way slab?

One way slabs are supported by beams on two sides only, while two way slabs are supported by all four sides. For a slab to be one way the ratio between the longer span and the shorter span must be greater than two. In order for a slab to be two way the ratio between the longer span and the shorter span must be less than two.

What is meant by 1WAY slab and 2 way slab?

The one way slab is supported by a beam on two opposite side only. The two way slab is supported by the beam on all four sides. In one way slab, the load is carried in one direction perpendicular to the supporting beam. In two way slab, the load is carried in both directions.

How is reinforcement provided in slabs?

In one way slab main reinforcement is parallel to shorter direction and the reinforcement parallel to longer direction is called distribution steel . In two way slab main reinforcement is provided along both direction. Slabs could be simply supported, continuous or cantilever.

How do design one way slab?

Compressive Strength. The compressive strength of concrete is specified based on the following criteria.

  • Minimum Thickness. For solid non-prestressed slabs not supporting or attached to partitions or other construction likely to be damaged by large deflections, overall slab thickness (h) shall not be
  • Concrete Cover.
  • Maximum Reinforcement Ratio
