Who is IB suitable for?

The IB Diploma Programme, or IBDP, is for students aged 16-19 and is based on the philosophy that students should always question the subjects they learn and apply critical thinking skills to real-world situations.

Can non IB students take IB classes?

Just like AP, students can pick and choose the IB courses they want to take. If students choose, they can sit for the higher-level (HL) or standard-level (SL) IB tests. The courses award a certificate to passing students. Other students, if it is offered, can take the full IB program that ends with an IB diploma.

The curiosity of learning that has been stimulated by IBDP not only fuels their passion for learning, but also makes the step-up to college much easier.

Can you get into UCLA with IB?

IB examinations, IB Examinations and college courses taken prior to or after enrolling at UCLA may be duplicative. In these cases we will award credit for only one….UCLA Credit Awarded for IB Exams.

Do IB students do better at university?

Research also shows that, regardless of an IB student’s background or socio- economic status, they do exceptionally well at university and in most cases perform significantly better than their peers who did not participate in the IB Diploma Programme. IB assessments are curriculum-based.

Does UCLA prefer AP or IB?

UCLA awards college credit for most IB higher level exams with scores of 5 or higher. (We don’t award college credit for standard level exams.) The specific credit you receive depends on the college/school your major belongs to: IB Credit for the The College.

Does Stanford accept IB?

Stanford awards credit only for certain higher level (HL) IB exams with a score of 5 or higher. Check the IB Credit Chart to see whether you can get credit for your IB exam. To request IB credit, contact the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to request that your IB scores be sent to Stanford.

What is IB and why is it important?

IB’s approach to teaching analytical skills may prepare you better for college-level coursework, writing, and research than standard high-school courses. Internationally recognized IB qualifications may help you to meet admissions requirements if you’re considering colleges in countries other than the U.S.

Why doesn’t my high school offer IB courses?

Even if you want to take IB courses, your high school may not offer them. IB courses and the IB diploma program are only offered at certain high schools which have undergone particular teacher training programs and been certified by the central IB organization.

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) program?

The IB program, based in Europe, is an educational organization with international reach. The central IB organization has developed curricula for students as young as preschool, but in the U.S., you’ll find IB educational opportunities primarily offered in the form of the IB Diploma Programme, or IBDP.

Can you take the IB exam without taking the course?

Also, the only way to participate in the IB program as a student is by taking a full IB course as one of your high school classes. While exams are part of the IB program, the course curriculum and classroom experience are equally important, and you can’t take the exam without taking the course.
