Why are Facebook users decreasing?

Facebook’s daily active users decline for a second quarter in the United States and Canada, caused by user fatigue and growing competition. Despite robust topline numbers, Facebook’s fourth-quarter earnings show a significant slow in growth and a second in a row decline for DAUs in its main markets.

Is social media usage declining?

Even now, among Americans 12-34 years old, Facebook usage declined from 79\% of that group in 2017 to 57\% today. Snapchat usage decreased from a previously stable 62\% to 55\%. Twitter is down from 36\% to 34\% and increased from last year at 29\%.

Is Facebook going to decline?

The number of young adults on Facebook in the U.S. has declined 2\% since 2019, and is expected to continue falling by an additional 4\% over the next two years. Those young adults are also sharing less than they were a year ago, and sending fewer messages.

Despite those efforts, Facebook is still struggling to attract teens and young people to its flagship app. Internal data from 2021 shows that for both age groups, time spent on the app, content production, messages sent and retention, or new users maintaining their account 90 days after its creation, are all declining.

Why has Facebook usage dropped in the United States?
