Why are rainbows always bow shaped?

The observer receives only one colour from the raindrop at a time. The red rays from the drops make a certain angle with the eye line joining the Sun and the observer. Violet rays make an angle of 40.8° with the line of vision and is seen on the inner edge of the rainbow. Thus, the rainbow appears in the form of a bow.

Glories arise due to wave interference of light internally refracted within small droplets.

How do our eyes see rainbows?

We see rainbows because of the geometry of raindrops. When the sun shines from behind us into the rain, incident rays of light enter the drop and are refracted inwards. They are reflected from the back surface of the raindrop, and refracted again as they exit the raindrop and return to our eyes.
