Why are X wings so much better than TIE fighters?

X-Wing: Better Durability The X-Wing Starfighter has a very powerful shield, repair droid, and an auxiliary life support system. The TIE Fighter pilot has to rely on his suit’s life support system during a fight while the X-Wing’s cockpit comes equipped with one. It is also much more durable than the TIE Fighter.

Is the X-Wing stronger than the TIE Fighter?

The addition of shields also means that it’s not as maneuverable as a TIE Fighter, which is most likely why the X-Wing carries additional firepower as well, such as torpedoes. This all adds up to the notion that the X-Wing is more versatile than the TIE. It makes a certain amount of sense.

How was the X-wing designed?

The X-wing appears in the original trilogy. The sound for it was generated by a passing artillery shell. The concept art designed by Ralph McQuarrie for the X-Wing shows the two engines split into four smaller engines on each wing when S-foils are open.
