Why BaSO4 is insoluble in water but BeSO4 is soluble?

Higher the lattice energy lesser is the solubility and higher the hydration energy greater is the solubility. b) Barium Sulphate has “high lattice energy” because of which it is insoluble in water, whereas Beryllium Sulphate has high hydration energy which makes is soluble in water.

Why is BeSO4 less soluble in water?

So the lattice energy released during their formation is also very high. Their hydration energy is not large enough to overcome them lattice energy to make them insoluble in water.

Is BeSO4 soluble or insoluble in water?

BeO is almost insoluble but BeSO4 is soluble in water.

Why are BeSO4 and MgSO4 readily soluble in water while CaSO4 SrSO4 and BaSO4 are insoluble?

BeSO4 and MgSO4 are readily soluble in water due to their high hydration enthalpies while CaSO4, SrSO4 and BaSO4 are insoluble because of their low hydration enthalpies.

Which among the following is least soluble in water BeSO4?

BaSO4 is least soluble in water.

Which is more soluble BeSO4 or CaSO4?

Is BaSO4 soluble in water?

Sulfuric acid
Barium sulfate/Soluble in
It is virtually insoluble in water (285 mg/l at 30 °C) and insoluble in alcohol. Its Ksp is 1.1 × 10–10. It is soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid. The crystal structure of BaSO4 is known to be rhombic, with a space group pnma.

Which is more soluble in water CaSO4 or SrSO4?

Answer. BaSO4 ,SrSO4,CaSO4 are all insoluble in water but to a different extent. Sulphates of Beryllium and Magnesium are soluble in water. But, Sulphates of Calcium, Strontium and Barium (CaStroBeAr) are not soluble to different extent.

Which of the following is sparingly soluble in water BeSO4?

BeSO4>MgSO4>>CaSO4>SrSO4>BaSO4 Thus BeSO4 and MgSO4 are soluble but CaSO4 is sparingly soluble, and the suphates of Sr, Ba, and Ra are virtually insoluble. the significantly higher solubilities of BeSO4 and MgSO4 are due to the high enthalpy of hydration of the small Be2+ and Mg2+ ions.

Which of following is least soluble in water?

BeF2>MeF2>CaF2>SrF2 so SrF2 is least soluble.

Is BaSO4 compound a solid or liquid?

Barium sulfate is the inorganic compound with the chemical formula BaSO4. It is a white crystalline solid that is odorless and insoluble in water. It occurs as the mineral barite, which is the main commercial source of barium and materials prepared from it. The white opaque appearance and its high density are exploited in its main applications.

Can BaSO4 dissolve in water?

Yes, BaSO4(Barium sulphate) is insoluble in water. In fact, sulphates of Barium, Calcium and Strontium are insoluble in water although their group companions Beryllium and Magnesium are water soluble. ( Radium is radioactive). Barium, Calcium and Strontium sulphates are exceptions.
