Why corner reinforcement is provided?

When slab is unrestrained, its corners will tend to lift up under UDL. However, if the slab is restrained at its edges and corners, it experiences bending moment at the corners which should be resisted by reinforcement. Hence, corner reinforcement is provided.

What is the corner reinforcement?

(1) concrete reinforcement used at wall intersections or near corners of square or rectangular openings in walls, slabs, or beams; (2) metal reinforcement for plaster at reentrant corners to provide continuity between two intersecting planes.

How do you provide corner reinforcement?

Corner reinforcement must be provided in the top and bottom of the slab to resist these bending moments. According to ACI 318-14, Section 8.7. 3.1. 3, reinforcement must be placed parallel to the diagonal in the top of the slab and perpendicular to the diagonal in the bottom of the slab (Figure 7).

Why is there extra bar in slab?

Extra Bars:- The extra bar is provided at the bottom of Cranked bars to maintain the framework of the slab. The length of Extra bar is L/4. Deduct the cover for finding length of bar. Compute the Total wt of steel required for slab reinforcement.

What is top and bottom reinforcement?

TOP Bar : Top bar acts as reinforcement which provides strength against flexular moment. It also act reinforcement for compression load which is induced on the top side of beam. Bottom bar : Bottom bar provide strength for tensile load that is induced in lower portion of beam.

What is the other name of corner reinforcement?

Are thes(Continue reading) Corner reinforcement are also called as torsional reinforcement. Torsional reinforcement shall be provided at corner of two way slab. The torsional moment are high near the corner therefore, torsional reinforcement is essential to prevent corner slab from lifting and prevents cracks.
