Why do older cars emit more CO2?

It’s because they are bigger and heavier and therefore emit more greenhouse gas says consumer group “Which?”. The research involved testing 292 models released in the UK since 2017. The results show that the latest generation of cars produce 7\% more emissions than those manufactured to previous standards.

Regarding small petrol cars, the average amount of carbon dioxide emissions produced by newer cars was 11.2\% higher than produced from the older models – however, nitrogen oxides fell by 43\% and carbon monoxide fell by 40.6\%.
