Why do oldies radio stations play the same songs?

The reason classic rock stations play basically the same songs is because of the definition of classic rock. When someone turns on a classic rock station they expect to hear certain songs and certain artists… mostly album cuts (popular or “best of”) cuts from the top albums of rock bands of the 1970’s.
