Why do people pay more than retail on eBay?

eBay uses “proxy bidding” which means eBay bids on your behalf. That means the system only bids as much as is needed to outbid all other bidders. As the seller, you would need TWO people bidding $30,000 to see this on your screen. The seller does not see the buyer’s maximum bid, only the current high bid.

Should you bid high on eBay?
