Why do we use condenser in steam power plant?

The main purpose in steam power plant is to generate maximum power at high efficiency. The most effective way for reaching this aim is to use a condenser. Condensers increase the enthalpy drops and turbine work by lowering the turbine outlet pressure. The lower the pressure, the higher the efficiency and power are.

What is compressor in power plant?

An air compressor is a pneumatic device that converts power (using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline engine, etc.) into potential energy stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air). By one of several methods, an air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing the pressure.

What is the function of compressor in plants?

The function of a compressor is to increase the pressure, and corresponding saturation temperature (boiling point) of the refrigerant vapor to high enough level so the refrigerant can condense by rejecting its heat through the condenser.

What is Rankine cycle in power plant?

The Rankine cycle or Rankine Vapor Cycle is the process widely used by power plants such as coal-fired power plants or nuclear reactors. In this mechanism, a fuel is used to produce heat within a boiler, converting water into steam which then expands through a turbine producing useful work.

Why is condenser used?

condenser, device for reducing a gas or vapour to a liquid. Condensers are employed in power plants to condense exhaust steam from turbines and in refrigeration plants to condense refrigerant vapours, such as ammonia and fluorinated hydrocarbons.

Where do we use condenser?

Condensers are used in air conditioning, industrial chemical processes such as distillation, steam power plants and other heat-exchange systems. Use of cooling water or surrounding air as the coolant is common in many condensers.

What is instrument air compressor?

Instrument Air Compressors. Instrument air is a support gas used to operate surgical tools, ceiling booms, etc., in lieu of nitrogen. All instrument air compressor packages are complete per NFPA99, and are designed to reduce the amount of field labor required for installation.

Why is a Rankine turbine more efficient than a Carnot engine?

Since Carnot’s principle states that no engine can be more efficient than a reversible engine ( a Carnot heat engine) operating between the same high temperature and low temperature reservoirs, a steam turbine based on the Rankine cycle must have lower efficiency than the Carnot efficiency.

What did Rankine contribute to the steam engine?

Rankine developed a complete theory of the steam engine and indeed of all heat engines. Together with Rudolf Clausius and William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), he was a contributor to the thermodynamics, particularly focusing on the first of the three thermodynamic laws.

What is the difference between steam turbine and reciprocating engine?

Unlike with reciprocating engines, for instance, compression, heating and expansion are continuous and they occur simultaneously. The basic operation of the steam turbine is similar to the gas turbine except that the working fluid is water and steam (with a phase change) instead of air or gas.

What are the advantages of the Rankine cycle?

One of the major advantages of the Rankine cycle is that the compression process in the pump takes place on a liquid.
