Why do we use JFET?

The primary use of JFET is as a low noise amplifier for front ends of highly sensitive circuits. Since they don’t have a gate oxide the 1/f noise is lower. They are also ocassionally used as large resistors similar to MOSFETs in depletion mode. JFET’s are closest to MOS that you can get on a bipolar process.

How is a JFET used as a switch?
