Why does art not have a purpose?

Art does not have to have a purpose – it does not exist in order to teach, to urge a moral point, to entertain, to distract, to amuse, to serve beauty, to support a revolution, to disgust, to challenge, to stimulate or to cheer; it exists chiefly for its own sake.

In as much as different people like different kinds of music, people have preferences as to art mediums as well. Perhaps the reason why one lacks interest in art is that they were exposed to the kind that didn’t appeal to them so much. And when this happens, the hasty generalization that art is boring sinks in.

Can art be without meaning?

All art has some meaning; art can not exist with absolutely no meaning. This is because all human activity has some meaning, so even if the artist says the art has no meaning, the no meaning – is the actual meaning of the art. When a person views the art, their subconscious will give them an interpretation of the art.

Why is original art so expensive?

Original art is expensive, because an artist’s time is valuable, an artist’s story is valuable, and an artist needs to pay bills and put food on the table. There are plenty of expensive pieces of art that I can’t stand looking at, and plenty of amazing works of art that are priced too low to pay anyone’s bills.

Rhys Southan’s essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” is about art and if it can really help people who are suffering or is it just better to hand over your money. Although some people might say art does not play a role in making the world a better place. I believe it can by bringing awareness to different social issues.

Artistic people are often open-minded and is always inspired by everything in their surroundings(not all though). Art is NOT useless. Art is definitely not useless. For the artworks in the past, they can reflect cultures, history, stories, and life of the past people. Do you think art is pointless?

tl;dr: I think art is pointless. It serves no purpose to better the chances of survival for the human race. The real heroes of society should be our scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. I won’t necessarily say that artists should be elevated above scientists, but they are far from pointless.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Art?

However that is the main advantage of art; it doesn’t actually do anything, the onlooker does, and that’s when you gain insight into life itself. Art inspires introspection because it is a completely useless but absolutely pivotal part of life; aesthetics don’t do anything but sometimes doing nothing is the best thing something can do.
