Why does flavored vodka have less alcohol?

In some cases, flavored vodka also has less alcohol than plain vodka. A number of the flavored vodkas are 60 or 70 proof instead of the more typical 80 proof. The flavoring compensates for the somewhat diluted taste of the lower proof.

Why is vodka 40 percent alcohol?
