Why does my car radio have a high pitched sound?

Alternator whine is the granddaddy of car stereo noise. Alternator whine will be heard as a high pitched whine that will rise and fall with the engine speed. Most of the time this is caused by a poorly chosen ground for a piece of equipment.

Why is my aux cord making a high pitch noise?

It may be that there’s a ground loop between that and the cigarette lighter power port. This means that if you connect an electronic device (a phone or Bluetooth receiver) to the power AND the aux input, you’re going to hear a high-pitched whine coming out of your stereo.

How do you remove alternator whine from car amp installation?

How to Eliminate Engine Noise

  1. 1) On the head unit, turn the volume down to zero.
  2. 2) Turn the gain up on the amplifier until you can hear the engine/alternator noise.
  3. 3) Unplug all of the RCA cables at the amplifier.
  4. 4) Plug the RCA cables back into the amplifier.
  5. 5) Unplug the RCA cables from the head unit.

Why are my speakers squealing?

Audio feedback is the ringing noise (often described as squealing, screeching, etc) sometimes present in sound systems. It is caused by a “looped signal”, that is, a signal which travels in a continuous loop. In technical terms, feedback occurs when the gain in the signal loop reaches “unity” (0dB gain).

What is a ground loop noise isolator?

A ground loop noise isolator has a separate isolation transformer on each channel. The transformer magnetically transfers the audio, but will not transfer electricity. As a result, the DC noise caused by the ground loop is eliminated. For example, you might still get ground loop noise from your radio.

How do I stop my alternator from making noise in my stereo?

You can usually isolate the head unit as the problem by disconnecting the RCA cables from the amplifier and inserting a muting plug (RCA plug with the connectors shorted together). This also eliminates any noise from components upstream of the amplifier such as crossovers and equalizers.

What causes a whining alternator?

The alternator or serpentine belt goes through several pulleys, so when the crank turns, the belt pulls the pulleys so they can spin. In time, the friction of spinning at such a high speed will cause the belt to wear and it will start whining.
