Why does my message say sent but not delivered on Messenger?

The receiver is logged out of Facebook Once that you sent a message to a person on Facebook or in messenger who is actually not online, automatically, the message will appear as sent but not delivered to the receiver.

What’s the difference between a message being sent and a message being delivered?

SENT means the message has been submitted to the cellular network for immediate delivery. DELIVERED means the message was delivered to the recipient’s cell phone.
