Will Blu-Ray ever go away?

The movie industry is transitioning away from the physical media business. It’s the end of an era. New reports confirm that film studios are planning to stop distribution of physical media, including DVDs and Blu-rays. plans to end or to phase out DVD and Blu-ray distribution by 2022.

Will DVDs and blu-rays become obsolete?

DVDs and Blu-ray discs will be replaced by streaming services. Consumers head to streaming services to watch movies, and the addition of Disney+ to the mix will only make DVDs and Blu-Ray discs even less of a necessity.

Will DVD ever go away?

In terms of DVDs as a medium for watching films, they will almost certainly be available in 20 years’ time, albeit in less supply in response to lower demand for DVDs, as online streaming becomes more of a medium for watching movies. However, that is not to say that DVDs will be completely ruled out in 20 years’ time.

Will Blu ray discs become obsolete in the next few years?

Blu Ray will not be obsolete in the next few years. Look at CD’s. More people digitally download, but you can still buy new release CD’s at Target and Wal Mart. Physical media will not be going away.

DVDs seem to be going the way of VHS, and are kind of inferior in every way to blu-ray. DVDs usually have 6–8 GB of data, while blu-ray has 40–50 GB. DVDs are already dying out, pretty much only being used for Xbox 360 games these days. Disc based media, on the other hand, definitely isn’t going anywhere.

How long do ververbatim writeable Blu-ray discs last?

Verbatim writeable Blu-ray disks come with a lifetime warranty, though I couldn’t find any reliable info on how long they supposedly retain data (or how long other brands of Blu-ray discs last).
