Are Nvidia and AMD the only GPU makers?

On the PC consumer market there are only nVidia, AMD and Intel. But in general, there are more companies that make GPUs, but they’re mainly used in Tablets and Smartphones. What comes to mine are Imagination Technologies making the PowerVR chips and ARM selling the Mali GPU line.

Why doesn’t Nvidia make their own GPUs?

Neither Nvidia or AMD manufacture their GPU dies because keeping up with the technologies for manufacturing silicon chips is extremely expensive. TSMC has spent around $15 billion dollars in 2019 in maintaining and upgrading their manufacturing facilities.

Why did Xfx stop making Nvidia cards?

The decision to stop working with Nvidia doesn’t surprise us as Nvidia simply didn’t send any Fermi chips to XFX and they were encouraging channel partners not to work with XFX, and therefore XFX simply could not sell enough Nvidia cards.

Graphics Cards from Nvidia and AMD are made by its licensed & official Partners who are authorized to make graphics cards for them. These manufacturers get the GPUs and PCB design layout from Nvidia and AMD for making Graphics Cards. Some of them may design their own customized PCB layout and circuit to cut down the cost or to increase performance.

Why do different graphics cards from different manufacturers have different performance?

Graphics Cards having the same GPU from different manufacturers or brands may not have the same performance and features. This is because different manufacturers may have their own board layout, memory capacity, type & speed, components quality and cooler.
