Are Sylhetis ethnically Bengali?

Sylhetis are a sub-community of Bengali, they have their own dialect which is quite similar to Bengali as well as Assamese, given their geographical location.

Are Chatgaiya Bengali?

Chittagonian (চাটগাঁইয়া Caṭgãia) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in parts of the Chittagong Division in Bangladesh. Its speakers identify with Bengali culture and Bengali as literary language, but the two are not mutually intelligible. It is mutually intelligible with Rohingya and to a lesser extent with Noakhailla.

Where does the Sylheti language come from?

The Sylheti language is native to the Greater Sylhet region, which comprises the present-day Sylhet Division of Bangladesh as well as the 3 districts of the Barak Valley and in Hojai district of Assam in India. Besides the native region it is also spoken by the Sylhetis living in North Tripura and the Meghalaya region.
