Do I have to go to Ait right after basic?

Whether you go right after Basic Combat Training or after your Phase 2 RSP (Recruit Sustainment Program) training, you’ll eventually go to Advanced Individual Training (AIT). In all likelihood, unless you’re in One Station Unit Training (OSUT), your AIT will be at a different post from your BCT.

Can you take leave after basic training?

Unless you have a verified family emergency (death or serious injury/illness of an immediate family member), you’re not allowed to take leave during basic training. Most new recruits (except in the Coast Guard) then go directly from basic training to a military job school to discover how to do their new military job.

How long does it take between basic training and AIT?

Advanced Individual Training(AIT) ranges from 4 to 52 weeks depending on a Soldier’s MOS. After graduating from basic training, Soldiers will go to AIT where they will complete Phase IV and Phase V before joining their unit.

Can I leave the army after basic training?

Basic Training Until a new recruit takes the Oath of Enlistment at MEPS, they are not considered to be truly available for duty. If you have NOT been to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and have NOT taken an Oath of Enlistment, you are free to quit the process at any time.

Although, if your AIT is scheduled to go through the Christmas/New Years holiday, you will most likely be granted what is called “Block Leave”. After technical school /AIT /A-School, one is normally authorized to take 10 days of leave if their first assignment is to a stateside base, and 15 days of leave if their first assignment is to an overseas base. (Note: For extremely long schools, longer leaves may be authorized upon graduation).
