Do we need to maintain minimum balance in SBI in 2021?

SBI, the country’s largest bank, on Wednesday announced a waiver on maintaining the average minimum balance (AMB) requirement for all savings bank accounts. Currently, there is an AMB of ₹ 3,000, ₹ 2,000 and ₹ 1,000 in metro, semi-urban and rural areas, respectively.

The country’s biggest bank, State Bank of India (SBI) has reduced the monthly average balance (MAB) requirement to Rs 3,000 from Rs 5,000 earlier. The revised charges for urban, semi-urban and rural centres are Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. The bank has also revised penalty for non maintenance of MAB.
