How do I find the owner of an IBAN number?

Your IBAN and BIC can also be found on your eStatements and paper statements under Customer Address. You can download AIB’s Tablet Banking App from the Google Play or Apple App store. Your IBAN and BIC are located on the top of your statement/eStatement.

How do I find out who a bank account belongs to?

Call the check’s bank and verify additional signers on the account. You may also give the bank the amount of the check to determine if funds are available. Don’t expect a bank to give you detailed information such as account holder names, balances or contact information.

Can someone do anything with IBAN?

Yes, it is safe. By giving an IBAN you can expose only that data that allows someone to send money to you, but not take it from you.

Can you get scammed with IBAN?

Frighteningly, there have been instances in Ireland where the criminals intercept an email, change the IBAN and BIC details to very similar IBANs and BICs for fraudulent accounts (in some instances, in the same bank branch) and then send onward the email to the originally intended recipient.

Is IBAN number same as account number?

An IBAN, or international bank account number, is a standard international numbering system developed to identify an overseas bank account. Note that an IBAN does not replace a bank’s own account numbering, as it’s only meant to provide additional information that helps in identifying overseas payments.

When a fraudster has your IBAN in addition to other personal information such as an identity document and a sample of your signature, he or she may be able to create a false direct debit authorization. Fraudsters also fraudulently change bank accounts.

Do banks check the name of the person who owns an Iban?

Possibly you can ask as an option, if you pay to an IBAN account and provide the name of the account holder, the bank check this. In cases I have provided such data it seems that the corporation / organization I will do some services for, actually check this as it takes some days for them to accept my data.

How can I find out the name of the bank account owner?

Depending on the country, you can extract the bank from the IBAN: Wikipedia. The name of the account owner can only be revealed by the bank (which the bank of course won’t do) or by the owner him/herself (maybe IBAN is mentioned in their homepage’s imprint).

We do not store IBANs or account holders but only hashes of IBANs which have been salted with data derived from the account holder names. These hashes allow us to answer the question “does IBAN X belong to account holder Y”, but they do not allow us to figure out the values of X or Y ourselves.
