How does SAP ALE work?

SAP ALE – Application Link Enabling – data exchange technology, developed by SAP AG. It’s a technology because it has a set of tools, protocols, formats which allow exchanging data in real-time or offline between SAP or non-SAP systems.

What is SAP ALE IDoc?

In an SAP System the Application Link Enabling (ALE) is one of the core integration technologies. It involves the exchange of hierarchical data documents known as Intermediate Documents (IDOCs). There are two scenarios, inbound to SAP, and outbound from SAP.

How does SAP process IDoc?

Steps to Re-process the IDOC ID:

  1. Go to the Transaction “WE02“.
  2. Go to the Transaction “WE19”.
  3. Then go to the Transaction “SE37” and enter the function module (ZAU_CONCUR_IDOC_UPLD) put a break point in the function module as shown in the below.
  4. Go the Transaction “BD20“, enter the newly generated IDOC and execute.

ALE stands for Application Link Enabling. Application Link Enabling is a very common technology used in SAP to transfer master and transactional data between different Logical Systems. ALE is a proprietary SAP technology.

The EDIDC table contains the data of the control record, the EDID4 table for the data records, and the EDIDS table for the status records.
