8.1 As per agreement between AAI management and representatives of ATC Guild India on 28th April 1994, it was decided that the duty hours of ATCOs working in shift duties would gradually be reduced upto 36 hours per week, with a provision of one weekly off.

Working hours Air traffic controllers usually work between 37 and 40 hours a week, but this is spread out over days, nights, weekends and public holidays. Air traffic control has to be manned 24 hours a day, so shift work is used to ensure there is always cover.

The FAA regulates the hours that an air traffic controller may work. Controllers may not work more than 10 straight hours during a shift and must have 9 hours’ rest before their next shift. Controllers may rotate shifts among day, evening, and night, because major control facilities operate continuously.

Allowances are more than the salary. So in 4 days, ATC officer is marked 24 hours duty, ( marked, not actual duty, because legally they get off for 4 hrs in night, plus about the same rest in day time duties of – Morning/ Afternoon. In 4 days, actual duty time is 24-minus 8= 16 hours. 5th/6th day rest.
