How many hours should my CAS project be?

The CAS project is meant to last one month and take a minimum of 12 total hours, from planning to completion and reflection. CAS projects of longer duration can provide even greater scope and opportunities for all participants and should be encouraged.

What counts as IB CAS hours?

IB Diploma candidates are required to complete 150 CAS hours. These hours must be distributed in each of the three areas below. Projects may include two to three aspects and these projects are the most beneficial to students. The 150 hours are completed during the two years in the program, 11th and 12th grade.

What are IB CAS requirements?

Students must be involved in at least one CAS project during the programme. The CAS programme formally begins at the start of the DP and contin- ues regularly for at least 18 months with a reasonable balance between creativity, activity and service.

How does CAS work with IB?

CAS involves the application of the IB Learner profile with the CAS learning outcomes. Students will work with a CAS advisor for 18 months where they are expected to complete experiences, provide evidence and reflect on their chosen experiences.

Does CAS project count as CAS hours?

Must be collaborative – planning/executing project in groups of 2 or more (can be with other students or with an adult). CAS project hours can be counted as part of your total hours. Only one CAS project needs to be completed for your CAS requirements, but more projects may be completed if you wish!

Can I do a CAS project alone?

It requires active planning using the CAS stages (investigation – preparation – action – reflection – demonstration) as a framework. cannot be done alone. ✓ CAS students must complete at least one CAS project during their CAS programme.

What is not CAS?

Criteria for things which do NOT qualify for CAS would include: Any class, activity or project which is already part of your Diploma Program. An activity for which you are paid or receive some other benefit. Doing simple, tedious and repetitive work, like returning school library books to the shelves.

What happens if I miss a CAS deadline?

Missing this deadline incurs a late fee of $50. CAS reflections, like EE deadlines, are part of your TOK grade.

Students must earn 50 CAS hours and completed as follows: 5 additional hours in any category, as long as the minimums above are met. Students may begin these hours the day after they complete 8th grade, and have until April of 10th grade to complete the 50 hours (23 months).
