Is always on display good or bad?

No! It’s not “BAD”, but that depends on whether you’re OK with charging your phone more frequently or not. That does shorten the life of the battery, though.

Does LCD screen save battery?

Dark mode can save battery, but only if your device has an OLED screen. Phones, computers, and other devices with LCD screens won’t save battery with dark mode on. If you’re not sure what type of screen your device has, check the manual or contact the manufacturer.

On some Android phones, the feature is called Ambient Display or Active Display depending on its implementation and behavior.
