Is HIV test accurate after 2 months?

If you know exactly when you may have come into contact with the virus, take a test 3 months after that date. Tests 3 months after exposure should be 99\% accurate. If you are having symptoms of HIV, see your doctor right away. Your doctor may want to use a test that can look for the virus directly in your body.

How many months does it take for HIV antibodies to show up?

HIV tests detect antibodies — the immune system’s response to infection. For the majority of people, HIV testing will be accurate at four to six weeks after possible infection. However, for some people it may take longer — up to three months — for detectable antibodies to develop.

How accurate is HIV antibody test after 9 weeks?

Evidence suggests that a test taken 6 weeks after your last risk is accurate for more than 90\% of the population. Although testing after 6 weeks but before 12 weeks may give you a good indication as to your HIV status, we still recommend that you retest at 12 weeks for a 100\% accurate negative test result.

What are the symptoms of HIV after three months?

Symptoms can include fever, swollen glands, sore throat, rash, muscle and joint aches and pains, and headache. These result from the body’s immune system attempting to fight a defense against the viral infection. The symptoms have usually passed by three months, if they have occurred at all.

What is the window period for HIV testing?

The median window period is 18 days (interquartile range 13 to 24 days). This indicates that half of all infections would be detected between 13 and 24 days after exposure. 99\% of HIV-infected individuals would be detectable within 44 days of exposure. A fourth-generation rapid test is available (Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo).
