Is it safe to use a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter for GPU?

If a 8Pin 18AWG cable can go safely to 300watts, so can a 6pin. But if you use 6pin 24AWG wire it will melt and probably catch fire. If you are just going from 6 to 8pin, it won’t make a difference.

Can you plug a 6 pin into an 8 pin PSU?

6 pin to 8 pin adapters are fine with decent psu and used with only one adapter in total.

What is a 6 pin PCI Express power connector?

The 6-pin 12V power connector is used to power PCI Express expansion cards that require more power than their expansion slots can provide, which is 75 watts. Some video cards, for example, draw more than 75 watts, in which case connecting a 6-pin 12V power cable can provide more power to the card.

Is it safe to use Molex to 8 pin?

Reputable. Yes, using an adapter is safe.

Are Molex connectors safe?

An improperly-manufactured molex to SATA adapter can pose a serious safety risk. And we don’t just mean that you can lose your hard drive. Under the “right” circumstances, your computer can catch fire.

How much power can an 8 pin PCIe?

150 watts
The PCI Express slot of the motherboard can provide up to 75 watts to the graphics card. 6-pin power connector can provide up to 75 watts. 8-pin power connector can provide up to 150 watts.

Do you need to plug PCIe power?

It is required. It’s good that it’s working. Many GPU’s have higher power requirements and demand to be fully hooked up to any PCIe inputs (some have 2).

Does PCIe go into graphics card?

The graphics card should go into the first PCI Express x16 slot. However, lower slots are usually capable of running the card as well.

Can 2 Molex power GPU?

Yes, using an adapter is safe.

Can I use 2 Molex to power GPU?

In theory, this works okay for a 2xMolex->PCI-e 6-pin adapter, but when you get to the 8-pin plugs, this can start to strain its capacity. Especially since invariably, two of the 3 +12v pins are sourced to only one of those Molex plugs.

What is a PCIe to Molex adapter used for?

Cable adapter PCIe to Molex female. Principal use is to convert riser molex 4pin power to be use directly on PCIe 6pin power connectors. Motherboards with support for a high quantity of GPU for mining will require additional power on the motherboard through 2x 4-pin Molex ports.

Can I plug a 6 pin plug into a Molex plug?

A 6 pin pcie has three +12V and two or three grounds depending on the manufacturer. If you take a shortcut and simply plug two daisy chained molex plugs into the adapter then in reality you are only feeding the pcie plug with a single +12V and two ground conductors… which could possible load the conductors with too much amperage.

Is it safe to power a GTX 970 from Molex to 6pin?

Molex to 6 pin, is it safe? Molex to 6 pin, is it safe? They will melt if you push too much current, for sure. But a GTX 970 is not going to do that. Especially considering this is a 970 with 2 pcie connectors.

How much power can a single Molex connector give a card?

So your single molex to pci-e 6 pin in theory can give 60 watts to a video card, in practice it can give more as long as you’re sure the connection is good and you check periodically that the molex connector doesn’t overheat (if there’s bad contact or high resistance in the connector it will get hot)
