Neither the SAT nor the ACT is “easier” or “harder” than the other – but different types of students usually do MUCH better on one than they do on the other. Therefore, parents usually come to me for SAT help – the ACT is something that they don’t even consider.

In this respect, the SAT Reading Test is easier than the ACT Reading Test. ACT Reading questions are far more complex than New SAT Reading questions.

Which is better, the SAT or the Act?

The ACT is best for students who are quick readers, have strong memories, and who can process informational quickly; whereas, the SAT is better for students who are strong readers, have a rich vocabulary, and are knowledgeable of test-taking strategies.

Is the act less coachable than the SAT?

It is largely believed that the ACT is the less coachable of the two tests. The ACT markets itself as a general knowledge test, whereas the SAT markets itself as a reasoning test. So whereas you can coach someone on strategies for reasoning, it is much more difficult to coach someone on general knowledge.

And the ACT covers harder material than the SAT does. So, you can make the case for either test. In the end, you should go with what fits for you. There is no magical formula; some do better on the SAT than the ACT, and for others, it’s the other way around. Although, I will say that I definitely like the ACT better.

Should I take the act instead of the SAT?
