What does the three eyes of Durga represent?

Like Bhagwan Shiva (Lord Shiva), Mother Durga has 3 eyes. She is referred to as “Triyambake” meaning the three eyed Goddess. The left eye represents desire (chandra – the moon), the right eye represents action (surya – the sun), and the central eye knowledge (agni – fire).

How are Dussehra and Durga Puja similar?

Durga Puja or Vijayadashmi celebrates Maa Durga’s victory over demon Mahishasura to protect darma. Whereas, the story behind Dussehra signifies Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. The day also marks the end of Ram lila– a brief retelling of Rama, Sita and Laxman story.
