What is Aru in refinery?

An amine regeneration unit (ARU) to regenerate the amine solution or specialty solvent. A sour water stripper (SWS) to remove ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from the sour process waters produced in the facility.

What is SRU refinery?

The Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU) is an extremely important unit in the Refinery or Gas Plant. The Claus plant is in place to convert H2S to valuable elemental sulfur and to minimize the amount of sulfur compounds released to the atmosphere.

What is SWS refinery?

Sour water stripping (SWS) is one of the first stages in the wastewater treatment process in many industrial operations, and especially in refineries. Water streams from throughout a refinery are typically sent to the stripper, which is designed to remove both H2S and ammonia from the water.

How does a sulfur recovery unit work?

The Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU) is based on the modified Claus Process, which is a two-step reaction scheme overall. A portion of the total H2S is burned in the Reaction Furnace to form SO2. Then, the H2S and SO2 react, at an optimal 2:1 ratio, to form elemental Sulfur (Sx) across the Claus Reactors.

What is SWS gas?

Process Description Sour water stripping is used to remove ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from sour water streams coming from many unit operations to condition it for discharge or reuse within the refinery.

What is TGTU?

The purpose of a tail gas treatment unit (TGTU) is to maximize the conversion of sulfur compounds to H2S. With an efficiently run TGTU, sulfur recovery efficiency can be increased up to 99.99\%. The treated gas is then directed to an incinerator, and the rich amine may be directed back to the SRU.

What is sulphur used for?

The major derivative of sulphur is sulphuric acid (H2SO4), one of the most important elements used as an industrial raw material. Sulphur is also used in batteries, detergents, fungicides, manufacture of fertilizers, gun power, matches and fireworks.
