What is difference between FCC HCP CCP?

-fcc stands for face centered cell and the coordination number is 12. -ccp stands for cubic close packed and the coordination number is 12. -Similarly, hcp stands for hexagonal close packed cell and the coordination number is 12. For example, the number of atoms per FCC unit cell is 4.

Is there any difference between CCP and FCC?

Firstly, FCC is a form of lattice that does not have determinable properties like density or volume and consists of only point. CCP is a form of crystal structure made of edges and planes and its properties like length, density and volume can be determined.

Is CCP or HCP better?

A CCP arrangement has a total of 4 spheres per unit cell and an HCP arrangement has 8 spheres per unit cell. However, both configurations have a coordination number of 12. For both HCP and CCP, the packing efficiency is 74.05 \%.

Is CCP also called FCC?

Ccp (cubic closed packing) is another name given to FCC( face centered cubic ) but HCP is not same. Although they both have closest possible packing of atoms .

Why are FCC and CCP same?

The cubic closed packing is CCP, FCC is cubic structures entered for face. When we put the atoms in the octahedral void, the packing is of the form of ABCABC, so it is known as CCP, while the unit cell is FCC. Two alternative terms for the same lattice are Face Centered Cubic (FCC) or Cubic Close Packed (CCP).

Is FCC and bcc same?

Face-centered cubic (FCC) and body-centered cubic (BCC) are two of the most iconic crystal structures. Nearly all elements have FCC, BCC, or HCP structures….

Crystal Structure FCC BCC
Number of Octahedral Interstitial Sites 4 6
Number of Tetrahedral Interstitial Sites 8 12

What is common in HCP and FCC unit cell?

Dear Sohail, FCC or the Face centres cubic and Hexagonal close packed structures both have a packing factor of 0.74, consists of closely packed planes of atoms and have a coordination number of 12. That is where the similarities end.

What is HCP in solid state?

Close Packed Structure. Matters exist in solid state because of close packing of their constituent particles. There are two types of close packing found in solids. These are Cubic Close Packed (ccp) and Hexagonal Close Packed (hcp) lattice.

Is hcp more closely packed than CCP?

Assertion (A): HCP is more closely packed than CCP. Reason (R): HCP has a co-ordination number of 12 whereas CCP has a co-ordination number of 8.

What is FCC in solid state?

In crystal: Structures of metals. , which is called the face-centred cubic (fcc), or cubic-closest-packed, lattice. Copper, silver (Ag), and gold (Au) crystallize in fcc lattices. In the hcp and the fcc structures the spheres fill 74 percent of the volume, which represents the closest possible packing of spheres.

What is common in hcp and FCC unit cell?

What is the other name of HCP?

They are called face-centered cubic (FCC) (also called cubic close packed) and hexagonal close-packed (HCP), based on their symmetry. Both are based upon sheets of spheres arranged at the vertices of a triangular tiling; they differ in how the sheets are stacked upon one another.
