What is harmonic construction?

harmonic construction, in projective geometry, determination of a pair of points C and D that divides a line segment AB harmonically (see Figure), that is, internally and externally in the same ratio, the internal ratio CA/CB being equal to the negative of the external ratio DA/DB on the extended line.

What do you mean by cross ratio?

Given four points A, B, C and D on a line, their cross ratio is defined as. where an orientation of the line determines the sign of each distance and the distance is measured as projected into Euclidean space.

Why is projective geometry important?

Projective geometry is also useful in avoiding edge cases of particular configurations, particularly the case of parallel lines (as in projective geometry, there are no parallel lines).

What is a harmonic analysis in music?

Harmonic analysis is sort of like music math. We’re looking very discerningly at a given piece of music and analyzing the harmony. This formula is what allows us to understand how the chords move from one to the next, referred to as the chord progression or harmonic progression (that’s a term you’ll want to remember).

What is harmonic construction music?

in music, simultaneous sounding of two or more tones and, especially, the study of chords and their relations.

How do you find the cross ratio?

Given a line (e) and four points A, B, C, and D on it, the cross ratio of these four points is defined by the equation: (ABCD) = ((a-c)/(b-c))/((a-d)/(b-d)). The right side of this equation is defined as the cross ratio of four real numbers.

What is the ratio of collinear points?

If the points A(3,−2,4), B(1,1,1) and C(−1,4,−2) are collinear, then the ratio in which C divides AB is.

How are finite geometries possible?

Finite geometries may be constructed via linear algebra, starting from vector spaces over a finite field; the affine and projective planes so constructed are called Galois geometries. Finite geometries can also be defined purely axiomatically.

Is Infinity a point?

In geometry, a point at infinity or ideal point is an idealized limiting point at the “end” of each line. In the case of an affine plane (including the Euclidean plane), there is one ideal point for each pencil of parallel lines of the plane. In the case of a hyperbolic space, each line has two distinct ideal points.

How do you describe harmonic rhythm?

In music theory, harmonic rhythm, also known as harmonic tempo, is the rate at which the chords change (or progress) in a musical composition, in relation to the rate of notes. Harmonic rhythm may be described as strong or weak.

How do you do a harmonic analysis?

Performing a harmonic analysis

  1. Identify phrase endings. It’s often helpful to listen for:
  2. Analyze the phrase ending. Label the cadence if present (it often is)
  3. Look for a strong predominant. Back up from the cadence to look for a strong predominant.
  4. Analyze from the beginning.

What is cross ratio in projective geometry?

cross ratio, in projective geometry, ratio that is of fundamental importance in characterizing projections. In a projection of one line onto another from a central point (see Figure), the double ratio of lengths on the first line (AC/AD)/(BC/BD) is equal to the corresponding ratio on the other line.
