What is voltage blocking capability?

The maximum forward- and reverse-voltage-blocking capability of power thyristors are dependent on the small-signal current gains of the p-n-p and n-p-n transistor sections, on the junction type, and on silicon resistivity.

Can BJT block negative voltage?

As mentioned by Jose Titus it is not possible to block high negative voltage with a power BJT. There are two junctions in a BJT, the collector-base and the base-emitter. When the collector emitter voltage is negative, the base-emitter junction is reversed whereas the collector base is forward biased (not blokcing).

What is the maximum voltage for transistor?

The rating for maximum collector-emitter voltage VCE can be thought of as the maximum voltage it can withstand while in cutoff mode (no base current). This rating is of particular importance when using a bipolar transistor as a switch. A typical value for a small signal transistor is 60 to 80 V.

What is the voltage VBE active of a BJT?

VBE is the voltage that falls between the base and emitter of a bipolar junction transistor. VBE is approximately 0.7V for a silicon transistor.

What is blocking voltage for diode?

The DC-blocking voltage is the reverse-biased voltage that if exceeded may destroy the diode. The recovery time of a diode refers to how quickly the diode can switch from forward-biased conducting to reverse-biased blocking. These types of diodes have much lower forward voltage and generate less heat.

What does it mean if VCE is negative?

The actual circuit VCE cannot be negative because the circuit does not have negative supply. The negative value will be clamped to the ground level which is zero volts. It is because it can give a maximum collector current and the computed circuit VCE is the minimum value.

What is reverse voltage blocking?

Reverse voltage protection circuits prevent damage to power supplies and electronic circuits in the event of a reverse voltage applied at the input or output terminals. To block negative voltages, designers usually place a power diode or a P-channel MOSFET in series with the power supply.

Which current has the highest value in BJT?

The 2N3904, presumably the same die, lists maximum peak base current as 100mA.

Which current is maximum in a transistor?

The maximum Base current rating is 1/3rd the Collector current (1/10th in the case of Darlington transistors).

How is VBE calculated in BJT?

This can be done using the formula: Vcc = Vrc + Vrb + Vbe + (Ic + Ib)Rc + IbRb + Vbe, where “Vrc” is the voltage across the collector resistor; “Vrb” is the voltage across the base resistor (connected across the base) and the junction between the collector resistor and the transistor collector; and “Vbe” is the voltage …

What is VBE?

For a BJT as you say if VBE < VBE(ON) the transistor is in cut-off, when you get to VBE = VBE(ON) the base and the emiter of the transistor behave like a diode, with the voltage drop of a diode (0.6-0.7V) it means you “can’t” have more than VBE = VBE(ON), you only can have the voltage drop across the diode.
