Why are Bic lighters so popular?

Simply Put – Bic lighters are easy to use and available almost everywhere. There is a reason why the classic Bic disposable design has withstood the test of time. The lighters are made from different plastic and metals, so they can’t be recycled in one piece, and Bic doesn’t recommend trying to separate or refill them.

How did Bic get its name?

After obtaining the patent rights to a ball pen created by Hungarian inventor, Marcel Bich introduced his own ball pen in December 1950. Touting his product as a reliable pen at an affordable price, he called it “BIC” a shortened and easy to remember version of his own last name.

What does BIC lighters stand for?

WHAT DOES BIC STAND FOR? “BIC” is actually a shortened version of founder Marcel Bich’s last name. That’s the “BIC Boy.” He was originally drawn as a school boy, with a head in the shape of a ball, holding a pen behind his back.

Why do Bic lighters have a hole in the bottom?

You will see a tiny hole in the center of the white bottom of the lighter. If you push the push pin down into that tiny hole (as shown in above video) you will push the bearing down into the fuel take of the lighter. Once you have pushed the pin all the way in, then remove it by pulling the pin back out.

Are Bic lighters allowed on planes?
