Why did Mewtwo turn bad?

Mewtwo’s start in life was not good. It was born from mew and altered through horrific gene splicing. Its purpose was to become the most powerful pokemon ever, able to defeat any foe in battle. The scientists ran all sorts of tests on it to further increase it’s power.
