Why did my cat have kittens on me?

She wants them close to her, so if a predator does attack one of her kittens, she can fight the predator. If a predator is spotted by the mother in the wild, the mother will go and attack the predator, regardless of how big the predator is. This gives the kittens time to escape and hide.
