Why do He2 molecule not exist?

Answer: According to MOT;The bond order and stabilization energy of he2 molecule are zero. He2 molecule contains 4 electrons. This indicates that there is no bond formation between 2 HE atoms and hence the He2 molecule does not exist.

Why He2+ exist but He2 does not?

Helium molecule contains 4 electrons. Out of this 4 electrons, 2 are present in the bonding molecular orbital and the remaining 2 are present in the anti-bonding molecular orbital. Hence, He cannot exist. He2+ contains 3 electrons.

Why does helium molecule not exist?

HELIUM MOLECULE DOES NOT EXIST BECAUSE IT IS A NOBLE GAS WHICH EXITS IN ITS FREE STATE THAT IS ATOMIC STATE NOT IN A MOLECULE STATE….

Does H2 exist?

H2 is also called molecular hydrogen. It consists of two protons and two electrons. Consequently it is the most common form of Hydrogen because it is stable with a neutral charge. H2 is not a free radical. H2 is the smallest molecule in the universe.

Does He2+ exist as a stable molecule?

It means 2 electrons are in bonding molecular orbitals and 2 are in antibonding molecular orbitals . Since the bond order is zero so that He2 molecule does not exist. I think the idea of bond order is not quite clear to you.

Why helium molecule not exist explain on the basis of molecular orbital theory?

According to the molecular orbital theory He has two electrons in the outermost shell and thus it is chemically stable because it’s duplet is complete. Hence it does not participate in the bond formation and molecule must have a bond to exist which is not in case of Helium.

Why is H2 not H?

Its because they are commonly found as diatomic particles . Because hydrogen atom can’t exist alone in nature it’s unstable so it combines with another hydrogen atom to form hydrogen molecule (H2). so the hydrogen which exist in Nature freely in air is H2 not H.

Why is H2 more stable than He2?

H2+ will be more stable than He2+ because while they both have same bond order, He2+ has anti bonding electrons which destabilizes the molecule.

Is H2 more stable than H2?

In H2- ion one electron is present in anti bonding orbital due to which destabilizing effect is more and thus the stability is less than that of H2+ ion.

Is H2 hydrogen gas an atom or a molecule?

H2, is an elemental gas with an atomic mass of 1.00794. This diatomic molecule is the lightest and most abundant element in the universe. It is also colorless, odorless, and highly flammable. Hydrogen; Hydrogen, H2, is the most abundant element in the universe.
